We stopped overnight at Hanalei Bay on Kauai. Dom and Nick paddeled ashore in the inflatable canoe to visit some friends and pick up more food. The ship's captain, Chris and myself stayed on the boat, went for a swim and cooked dinner. That was a much easier task when anchored!
This morning we awoke to a beautiful double rainbow. I snapped the picture with the cell phone and sent it to Tricia to add to the blog. I made egg burritos for breakfast before we set sail for the Napali coast. Nick and Chris had hiked a good portion of this coastline previously and shared that experience. The coastline here is as majestic as it gets. The cliffs tower over 4000 feet straight from the shore with deep canyons, abrupt ridgelines, caves, and a pallete of colors that is constantly changing as the sun and clouds create different lighting. Nick had his camera out most al day, so we will have many pictures to share. This is where we had our main meal for the day. Dominick made some roast beef sandwiches followed by salad with mangos an improvised pasta dish. Just as we were leaving this beautiful place to start our journey north a Manta Ray jumped completely out of the water about 20 feet from the boat. It was a spectacular event. It leaped out twice, so all who missed Act I got to see the encore. We took advantage of calm winds near the shore to set sails for our trek north. We reefed the main and put out the jib at 1530 (L) and started the journey northward. Dom just headed to his berth in the forward cabin to catch some rest. He will come on duty again at midnight tonight. Kauai is now in our review mirror.
