June 30 0400(Z)/June 29 1700(L): Continuing to track due North at about 6 kts. Main sail at first reef point + jib
This afternoon Dom hooked mahi mahi on both lines simultaneously. They were smaller than yesterday's catch, but a good size for eating. We had sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi on the deck as an appetizer to a fish dinner with the left over filet from yesterday. Then as Dom was getting ready to bed down for the night, another hit. This time Dom gave us all a lesson in how to filet the fish. Mind you this lesson occurred on the back of the boat traveling at 6kts with 4-6 ft sea swells. What a classroom! Lessons of this caliber are worthy of turning on the autopilot so that all can learn without being distracted. So it appears as if we will have fish stories to tell and if our luck continues, we can donate the canned foods to charity upon our return. The cuisine thus far has been sensational!
So how do I blog without internet connection? That is a good question. We several computers on board that are hook into the SSB HF radio. There is a program called sail mail that allows us to send and receive email messages via HF radio transmission (text only) of limited size. I send my blog posts to Tricia who actually posts to the internet. Although we can receive email text messages, we have limited the address to very few folks to ensure we do our part to minimize the use of very limited bandwidth. So, if you really need to get a message to the crew, Tricia can send it along.
It is about 1 hour until sunset. I will stay up for that...never disappointing...and then sack out so that I can take the helm at 0400(L).
