Today started like another day in paradise and, well, ended that way. Because of the strong winds last night, I slept in the cabin for the first time and slept in well after sunrise. You can't watch them all :-) Sleeping in was paradise for me.
Nick flew in from Aspen and I had the airport pickup duty which allowed Chris some more prep time with Orisha. Like any airport rendezvous these days, I had my cell phone and Nick's number. That was important as Nick and I had never met before. Chris' car was not a give away either as Nick had never seen his car. But, this is 2010 and cell phones can make any rendezvous, regardless of faulty planning work out smooth. Right? That is until I Nick found out that the Maui airport does not have WiFi. You see, Nick is only running his IPhone on Skype which requires WiFi to make and receive calls. So he never called and he never returned messages. Once I comfirmed that his flight had come in, I searched for a guy looking like he had packed for a long sail trip and carrying some photography gear. I knew that Nick was a photographer and that is all the clue I needed. I introduced myself to a man who fit the part and that is when I met Nick.
Nick is a professional photographer living in Aspen, CO. He specializes in architectural photography. Evidently there are some very nice photogenic homes in Aspen. I suspect he will take many good pictures of our voyage, documenting the journey for all. Due to bandwidth, those will not get loaded on the blog until we return to WiFi range.
We stopped at Safeway and picked up steaks for diner. After improvising a mount for the BBQ, it was time to give it a pre-departure test. So the 3 of us enjoyed BBQ steaks while watching the sun set between Molokai and Lanai. The day ended in paradise as it had begun.
