Reflection

July 4 1500(Z)/0500(L): 3622N/15823W. Winds are calm and the sea is smooth like glass.
After entering today's date I realized that yesterday's blog which highlighted our ship's captain Chris was incorrectly dated. That entry should have been dated July 3 1850(L)/July 4 0450(Z). Is it any surprise that I have lost track of days?
Last night as I stepped down in the cabin headin' for the bunk, I looked back out to the cockpit from below. There sat "The Bos" gazing at the last light of the evening, soft piano music in the background and wind in the sails taking it all in. This was his moment. Chris is the quintessential romantic.
This morning I awoke to the sound of sails flapping and otherwise an eerie quiet. I never imagined that the middle of the Pacific could be so calm. I could see the lights from the boat reflecting off the water and the moonlight was casting a silhouette of the boat on the water. It is utterly amazing how variable the conditions can be. We have had 25-30kt winds in 8 ft swells and now this serene calm. I wonder what lies ahead? While the calm is a welcome relief when it comes to cooking, KP and household chores, it is not so good in terms of sailing. We are only moving at 1-2 kts. After the sun rises if we have the same conditions, we may take a quick dip. The opportunities for such an event are dwindling as the water temperatures continue to drop.
Meanwhile, I am headin' back topside for my own time of reflection.
