Wet and Not so Wild

July 9, 0850(L)/1650(Z); 4101N/14720W; roughly 1050NM directly West of Eureka, CA. The damp fog we are currently experiencing reminds me of my youth. You see, I grew up in Eureka. It feels like home without the redwood trees.
About a week ago we changed from heading N to a more easterly heading ENE. This put us on the rhumb line to the Straits of Juan De Fuca and guarded against getting hit by a large low pressure system coming down from the North. As such, we are staying close to the high pressure system with enough wind to keep moving. It is comfortable sailing save the damp foggy conditions.
The last couple days have been damp and foggy with often less than 1/8 mile visibility. Having flown airplanes, I know about the Big Sky theory. But after not seeing another vessel of any kind since leaving Kauai, I now believe that there is a "Bigger Ocean Theory." We remain vigilant, but the siting of a ship would be a highlight, as long as it was not in our path!
So yesterday was shower day, the first for me. In the warmer waters we bathed off the back of the boat and had that glorious day of swimming. I had visions of taking a shower while underway noting that the shower at home doesn't move around. I estimated the shower was going to cost me no less than 3 bruises. I was ready for wet and wild. Lucky for us, the seas were relatively calm and I got my hot shower without the bruises. Success!
